CILICIA. Tarsus. Trajan Decius, 249-251. Hexassarion (Bronze, 34 mm, 21.40 g, 12 h). ΑΥ ΚЄ [Γ ΜЄϹ Κ]ΟΥ ΔЄΚΙΟϹ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟϹ ЄΥ ЄΥϹЄΒ / Π - Π Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Trajan Decius to right, seen from behind. Rev. ΤΑΡϹΟΥ ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛЄΩϹ - Α / Μ Κ / Γ - Β Zebu bull lying before garlanded altar; behind, upper part of a male figure standing facing, head to left and holding spear and shield; to right, Perseus, holding Gorgoneion and harpa with his left hand and patera over altar with his right; to left, Demeter standing right, holding two small torches over altar; in background, high column with cult-statue of Apollo Lykeios holding two wolves atop. BMC 304 and pl. XXXVII, 10 (same dies). RPC IX 1349. SNG Levante 1165 (same dies). SNG Paris 1767 (same dies). Rare and with an interesting reverse. Somewhat corroded, otherwise, very fine.
